surface Christmas Decorations - How to Make a Christmas Light Show

!±8± surface Christmas Decorations - How to Make a Christmas Light Show

The ultimate goal of anything who loves to decorate their yard for Christmas is to set up a full light show that includes music. These shows can be difficult to set up, but they are spectacular to see and are well worth the effort.

Here are some steps to get your started on creating your own show:

Do your Research.

Before going any further, be aware that setting up a Christmas lightshow as part of your surface Christmas decorations take a lot of time and patience. It can be a great hobby, but it's not as easy as plugging some lights in flipping a switch. So, if you are ready, keep reading.

You are going to need a few items to make this work:

1. A computer to do the programming.

2. A light controller with many channels. This is what controls the lights.

3. A software schedule to schedule the light controller. This will define when the lights turn on and off in relation to the music.

4. An Fm transmitter to broadcast your music. Another option is a pair of speakers on your front porch, but it is unlikely that the neighbors appreciate the same song playing over and over again.

5. The lights! For a complete effect, this should include not just quarterly lights, but icicle lights, net lights and yard displays.

Organize and Plan.

Now you are getting down to the fun part. To make the show work, you will need to sit down with pencil and paper and originate your system. Decide what music you want to play (preferably something that has to do with Christmas), and where the decorations will be. Your plan should include a drawing of your front yard, with sketches and notes on how the show will work.

Buy Your equipment and Decorations

Now that you have your plan, you are ready to buy your decorations. This can get high-priced fast, so do some investigate to make sure you aren't overpaying. I suggest going through the internet for the software and operate box for the lights. A search in Google or Yahoo should yield some results and allow you to correlate some options.

Test, Test, and Test!

It's important enough to say again: Test, Test, and Test! The first thing you should do is set up your controller for a single set of lights and make sure you can get it to turn on and off. Then get it to turn on and off to music. Then add a second set of lights and make sure you can get that one to turn on and off. See why this takes so long? It can be tedious, but the results are well worth it.

Set It All Up

After all things is programmed, it's just a matter of setting it up. Hang the lights, set up the displays, and plug it in.

Now, all you have left to do is sip hot cocoa and watch your neighbors scramble to get their decorations looking half as good as yours!

Good Luck!

Christmas Outdoor Lights

!±8± Christmas Outdoor Lights

Christmas is a time of year that many love. As soon as the first snow fell last week our niece and nephew were already saying, "Christmas is here!". Decorating for the Holidays is one thing that makes them seem even richer.

Outdoor tree lights and other decorations accent the yard, make the home stand out more against the snow, and greets the eyes of onlookers with joy. Lights are an important means of making the decorations come alive. Blinking sequences, hanging icicles, and nodding reindeer are all part of the backdrop of a lively yard.

Before using just any lights outside, it is very important to be sure that all of the strands are rated for outdoor use. This wet/damp UL approval helps insure that harm will not come as a result of using the lights where they are exposed to rain and snow. Also before hanging or stringing of any bulbs it is important to check for any breaks or frays on the wires. Broken bulbs can also pose a danger. If any defects or wear is found then the lights should be discarded and new ones purchased.

One danger that many homeowners would not usually thing to be concerned about it pets. Some cats are very attracted to lights and will grab them with their mouth and pull the bulbs from the string. One of our cats actually chewed through one of the thin wires. This can create a fire hazard. Dogs also can get to playing with extension cords and unplug the lights from the far end of the cord. This leaves electric current in the cord that can pose a danger if is comes in contact with the wet ground.

Color coordinating tree lights with ones for the home enhances the over all appeal of the outdoor decorations. Some home owners choose one color for the trees, one color for the fence, a third color for the home, and a final color for animated objects. Nodding deer, waving Santa Clauses, and moving snowmen are just a few of the items that can be purchased for outside use. Multi colored lights are always a favorite. Blues, greens, reds, oranges, yellows, and whites all mixed together can give another dimensions to the highly organized colors described above.

When choosing for areas that are farther from the home solar Christmas lights can be the most useful. It can be dangerous to plug in to extension cords together and leave the joint exposed to the weather. This is a good way to short out the extension cord entirely and trip a breaker in the home. So stretching over 100 feet might not be the best choice. Solar strings solve this problem. By simply pushing the solar panel in to the ground near to the bush or other object that is to be lit, then the lights have their own source of electricity.

Christmas outdoor lights are perfect for outlining, adding color, and increasing the holiday charm of any area. So take the time and do some shopping to select lights that will make this Season even more memorable for you.
